Yes, we did match yesterday and we are going to be living in St. Joseph, Michigan for the next four years while Brian is an emergency medicine resident at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. We couldn't be more happy, besides the fact that it is VERY far away from our families. Our parents are already in mourning for their grandchildren. St. Joseph was our first choice though we did dream of Arizona and the convenient 10 hour drive home. For many different reasons it is probably for the best that Arizona wasn't going to work out. Brian really believes that he is going to enjoy the program and we know that we are going to enjoy the community immensely. I was able to visit St. Joseph just this last fall and I immediately fell in love, despite the snow that fell while I was there.
We can't believe how close to graduation we are and we're really looking forward to seeing all of our dear friends when we're all gathered back in Des Moines to celebrate.
PS Some may recall that I've been saying for a few years now, "Anywhere but Michigan." I should have known better. That is usually how my life works.
This is what I was thinking about when I wanted anywhere but Michigan...

The west side of Michigan is amazing. Mean, I could be a bit basis growing up in Holland, MI. Make sure that sometime in the next four years you explore northern MI. If you need some specific spots to visit let me know. Congrats on the match and looking forward to having you as a MI resident for the next four years. We hope to stay MI residents, but won't know until March.
Congratulations! I bet it is such a relief to know where you are going and be able to start making plans. Congratulations also on surviving the fourth year of medical school- it is a tough one! Hope everything is well with you guys.
That's awesome news! Congrats!
Yes, the west side of MI is so beautiful. The east is good, too. We'll only be 2 hours from you guys! We matched here in Grand Blanc. By the way, the weather is way crazier in Iowa/Missouri than here in MI. Congrats!
congrats guys, first choice and everything! We will probably be close as in Ohio I am guessing. We shall see. See you in May
Oh I am so glad you posted, so I didn't die of curiosity over here :)
Congrats to you guys! Now if you are going to be driving through Utah on your way to Michigan, you have to stop and stay with us and by then we will know where we are going for residency too!
Congratulations, even though we will miss you terribly. You can visit my brother and sister-in-law in Ohio if you like. :) When is your departure date?
Congrats, you will be missed! I'm glad we got a few play dates in before you left :)
